On the 29.06.10 PAGE Concrete tested a new 8000 long x 1200 wide x 200mm thick floor plank weighing 3.55 tonne, a normal solid plank of this size would weigh approx 4.7 tonne and a 2.20 tonne middle point load was placed on the plank which deflected 10mm.
The solid plank is aimed at flooring for industrial and apartment buildings, thicker planks with greater spans will also be possible.
The advantages are;
The solid floor plank doesn't retain water like hollow core flooring planks
Good sound and insulation properties.
Cut outs for services are easy to place.
Extra reinforcing can be placed for picking up with forklift, tying to structure and other planks.
Further tests are to be taken before PAGE Concrete start normal production.
